Accelerated pavement tester (Lintrack)

Description

The LINTRACK (LINear TRACKing Apparatus) accelerated loading system consist of a dual steel gantry (total length 20 m), along which a loading carriage can be moved to and from. A free rolling single, dual or “super single” truck wheel can be mounted in this loading carriage. The wheel load (adjustable from 15 to 100 kN) is applied by means of pneumatic bellows. The to and from movement of the loading carriage is effected by a 80 kW electrical motor via a steel cable. The total running length of the loading carriage is 11.5 m. Accelaration and deceleration both take 4 m, so over 3.5 m of the running length the carriage has a constant speed of 20 km/h. LINTRACK can simulate both one- and two-directional traffic. In two-directional trafficking, about 1080 wheel passes per hour can be accomplished. In one–directional mode, the wheel is lifted hydraulically on each return movement of the wheel carriage.

The Lintrack pavement tester is located behind the Stevinlab II North lab.

Main application:

Durability testing of pavements. With the Lintrack it is possible to perform fundamental full-scale research into the performance of road constructions under traffic loading. In total there is room for approximately 55 meters of pavement above which the Lintrack can be positined. Via 48 IR-heaters with a joint power of 60 kW the pavement temperature can be increased with 35 degrees celcius.
